A thought exercise I love is the burnt toast theory. For me, it's a powerful way to release little frustrations in life over things I cannot control.
It's a simple concept that helps reframe a negative moment into a positive possibility.
Let's say you burnt your toast this morning. Maybe you were already feeling in a hurry to get out the door, now you're feeling frazzled.
If you can relate to this feeling, you also know little frustrations can build into a bigger stress response.
A third possibility exists in this theory.
What if the extra three minutes you spend making new toast is the reason you walk into the office at the same time as a friend?
This isn't toxic positivity. Being frustrated is legit.
Remembering the burnt toast theory moves your focus back to spaces where you are open to possibility. It helps us consider in a mindfulness context how we can acknowledge the frustration and let it pass, without holding the energy too long.
Scientific? Not necessarily. Useful sometimes? For sure!

I got sick last week and it threw off my publishing schedule. I'm sorry if you were counting on creative energy!! On the road healing, I wrote these words on my new favorite addition, a whiteboard desk, to maintain how I can savor the good moments while keeping an eye on my energy.
If these words help you like they helped me, I wanted to share a few powerful reminders:
- Be here now.
- See signs of hope.
- You are enough.

What's your creative dream? And what if burning the toast means you're right on time?
